Cultural Exchange Network (“Cenet”) is a non-profit organization designated by the United States Department of State as a J-1 Exchange Visitor Program sponsor. We also operate the Magellan Exchange, a consortium of universities worldwide offering student and faculty exchanges, and Culture in the Community, an outreach program for local youth. We are headquartered in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. More information about us is available at the end of this policy.
This policy applies because we are the data controller or processor with respect to the personal data of our users; in other words, where we determine the purposes and means of processing personal data. In the policy, “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to Cenet. This policy applies to all Cenet websites. Our websites are available to the public, but some features are limited to registered users. By using our websites and services, you accept the data privacy practices outlined in this policy, which aims to better your understanding of how we use data.

Why we collect personal data
We collect personal data to enable and monitor our programs and to provide information about our services, as well as to improve operations. Additionally, we may streamline our application process by auto-filling previously provided information.
Types of information
Personal Data
Profile Data: When you create a profile or become a registered user, we may process your information in a personal profile on our website. The profile data may include your name, address, telephone number, email address, picture, gender, date of birth, as well as medical, criminal, educational, and employment details. The profile data is processed to enable and monitor your program. You may update this information at any time to ensure its ongoing accuracy.

Legal & Protection: We reserve the right to share your personal data as reasonably necessary for legal claims in court proceedings or administrative procedures, to comply with requests from law enforcement, or to protect the rights and property of Cenet, you, or third parties. Additionally, we may supply your personal data to parties necessary for the assurance and protection of your health, safety, and welfare.
Consent: We may share your information in any other manner to which you consent. You may withdraw consent at any time by emailing our Data Protection Officer at dpo@cenet.org.
Protection of your information
Cenet endeavors to protect your personal data against any data breaches including accidental loss or unauthorized access and disclosure. We restrict data access to employees who need the information to ensure your health, safety, and welfare. In addition, we instruct all staff on the importance of confidentiality, privacy maintenance, and information security.
Despite our best efforts to protect your data, we cannot guarantee its security. Misuse of personal data by others is not entirely preventable by Cenet. If you obtain a username and password for access to our site, you are responsible for the security of that information. Please do not supply your access information to any other person.
International transfers of your data
Cenet is located in the United States. Information you provide may be transferred to, processed, and controlled in the United States and therefore subject to U.S. law, which may differ from the laws in your country of origin or residence.
The United States has not received an “adequacy decision” from the European Union under Article 45 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Cenet relies on derogations for specific situations as set forth in Article 49 of the GDPR. We do our utmost to apply protections to safeguard the privacy and security of your personal data and to use it only within the practices described in this notice.
Privacy of minors
Our site is not intended for use by minors under the age of 16, nor do we knowingly collect the personal data or information from anyone under the age of 16.
